Video Teaching – The Apostolic Nature of the Spirit

by Scott

Last week, I posted a detailed video teaching entitled, Jesus, the Apostle. For many, there may have never been the consideration that Jesus was an apostle, seeing that ministry mainly belonging to people like Paul or Peter or John. But Jesus was the greatest apostle, or ‘sent one’, that ever lived. So we need to start with him if we are to truly learn what this ministry is all about.

The video below continues with some in depth teaching on the apostolic ministry, specifically looking at the apostolic nature of the Holy Spirit. Just as the Father sent the Son, so the Spirit was sent out by the Father and Son to accomplish a specific mission. Thus, the Spirit carries an apostolic mission, even empowering the church to continue on with the apostolic ministry of Christ.

Video Teaching – Jesus, the Apostle

by Scott

One thing this blog is definitely devoted to is presenting a positive case for the continuation of all gifts of the Spirit from Pentecost to the present (and beyond). While that might usually seem wrapped up in a defense of the gifts in 1 Corinthians 12, for me personally, I also believe in the continuation of all 5 ministry gifts in Ephesians 4:11-13 (or 4 giftings if one would like to argue such).

So, yes, though Marv (my partner in crime) and I would probably disagree on this subject, I do believe the ministry gift of apostle is still active and needed even today. I’ll post a rather detailed series in the near future on why I hold to such. But I at least wanted to share 2 teaching videos as a kind of taster.

The first video below is entitled Jesus, the Apostle and the teaching comes from a close friend and ministry partner of mine, Alan Scotland. He specifically looks at what it means to be an apostle and does this by considering specific aspects in the life of Jesus. Christ is the great apostle, so it’s best to look at His life and apostolic ministry.

Though the video is about 10 years old, the teaching remains extremely relevant to the topic at hand. I hope the video stirs you.

God’s Healing Power at Work

by Scott

A few week’s back, I shared a video of a friend of mine from a partner church in England. It was about some amazing work that took place during his trip to India in the spring of 2010.

Well, below is another video from another partner church of ours in Glastonbury, England. These amazing things are taking place in the town of Glastonbury. Exciting stuff!

Great Work in India

by Scott

Earlier in 2010, a friend of mine, Geoff Brown, headed to India to spend some time alongside the churches and leaders we work with in India.

Though my friend, Geoff, believed in the continuing miraculous works and gifts of the Holy Spirit, and had seen those and been used in some of those in the past, God really moved in incredible ways, well beyond what Geoff had expected.

Below is a short video in which Geoff shares some of the amazing work which God did while he was amongst our friends in India.

A Simple Way God Spoke Through A Song

by Scott

I thought I would share some music musings that I had originally posted over at The Prodigal Thought. I wanted to share a simple little story about an ol’ favourite singer of mine, a song that has been stuck in my head this week, and a little story of how God spoke to me through the song.

One of my favourite singers since I was a little toddler has been Kenny Rogers. Yes, Kenny Rogers! Now, I don’t listen to him on a regular basis today, but my ventures with Kenny Rogers all started when I was just a little tyke of a boy. I fell in love with his singing when he appeared on one of the Muppets episodes (not the Muppet Babies cartoons, but the real Muppet puppets). And my parents taped that one show (on a VHS tape) and I watched it constantly, continually, perpetually, even religiously. My parents regularly recall how I would always call out to them, ‘Mommy, daddy. Kenny Waagerrs and Mwuppwets! Kenny Waagerrs and Mwuppwets!’

I supposedly could not get enough. And I have vague memories of that one show with Kenny Rogers embedded deeply within me.

Well, interestingly enough, before I was to move to Brussels, Belgium, I had been involved with a guy’s prayer group on a weekly basis within our local church. A few weeks before I moved, the guys were specifically gathered around me, praying for my situation. I had shared how there were a lot of things going on with preparing to end out things in Memphis and preparing to head to Brussels. I was beginning to feel quite overwhelmed.

As the guys were praying for me, one of my good friends, Sam, spoke up and said something to the effect of: Scott, I don’t know if you know the Kenny Rogers song, The Gambler. But I really believe God wants to speak to you through the one line that says, ‘You’ve gotta know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em, know when to walk away, know when to run.’
Sam went on to share how, in this time, there are things that I need to consider if they are worth holding onto or if it is simply better folding them and laying them down. Though you might laugh, and some might even mock at my suggestion that God could ever speak through such a song, it was quite a strengthening word given to me from a simple line from a simple song, a song from my favourite singer as a little tyke. I will always remember that evening as I gathered with a handful of guys for prayer. And who wouldn’t remember a time when God speaks like a two-edged sword into your life and situation?

So, lately I have been singing that song. And so, in tribute to my most-liked singer as a little boy, and in remembrance of that strengthening word before heading to Brussels, I post this video of The Gambler by Kenny Rogers.
